US stock futures flat as investors weigh upcoming earnings

U.S. stock futures were flat in overnight trading on Wednesday as investors awaited the start of the fourth-quarter earnings season and the release of the Federal Reserve's latest meeting minutes.
Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 0.01%, or 3 points, to 34,047. S&P 500 futures were up 0.02%, or 0.75 points, to 4,016. Nasdaq 100 futures were up 0.03%, or 3.25 points, to 11,730.50.
The major averages closed mixed on Tuesday as investors digested a slew of economic data and corporate earnings.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.39%, or 134 points, to 34,053.26. The S&P 500 lost 0.08%, or 2.51 points, to 4,015.29. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.61%, or 68.83 points, to 11,334.26.
Investors will be watching closely for the start of the fourth-quarter earnings season on Wednesday, with JPMorgan Chase (JPM) and Citigroup (C) scheduled to report before the bell.
The Federal Reserve is also set to release the minutes from its latest meeting on Wednesday, which could provide more insight into the central bank's thinking on interest rates.
