Akron Police Shooting: Victim Suffered 60 Wounds

City on Edge as Investigation Continues

AKRON, Ohio - A 25-year-old Black man who was killed last week by police officers in Akron, Ohio, suffered at least 60 wounds when police officers fatally shot him last week following a high-speed chase.

On June 27, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Akron, Ohio police officers shot Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old American from Akron. The city of Akron, Ohio, is on edge this Fourth of July one week after the fatal police shooting of 25-year-old Jayland Walker.

Video released on Sunday showed eight police officers in Akron, Ohio, firing more than 90 rounds at Walker, who was unarmed, as he fled from a traffic stop. The officers have been placed on administrative leave while the Ohio Attorney General's office investigates the shooting.

The city of Akron is on edge, with protests and demonstrations planned throughout the week. The mayor has called for calm and transparency as the investigation continues.
